Earlier this year, I took action when Fayetteville needed it most. Following a series of community Town Halls, I brought forward a resolution declaring a Housing Crisis in the City of Fayetteville. It called for the creation of the Housing Crisis Task Force. Then, despite opposition, I also led the way to include renters on the task force. That task force is now up and running, working on local solutions and housing programs. This is one of the proudest achievements of my first term.
I'm proud to be endorsed for the second time by both the Fayetteville Fraternal Order of Police and the Fayetteville Firefighters Association. I have consistently voted to keep residents and families safe, and for better pay for public safety employees. I'm proud of our award-winning Crisis Intervention Response Team, a unit of social workers within the police department. Their aim is to get more people the help they need with fewer people serving jail time.
I have consistently supported the 71B Corridor Plan, which will transform our city's backbone. It will help add a lot of the housing we need without sacrificing our established neighborhoods. The plan will also make South School Ave. and North College Ave. safer for for both drivers and pedestrians, improve our infrastructure, and beautify our main corridor.
I sponsored the resolutions creating the Black Heritage Preservation Commission and the Fayetteville Youth Advisory Council. My goal is for the City of Fayetteville to ensure all voices are heard and create lasting relationships with residents. I have a 97% attendance rate at Fayetteville City Council, attending all but three council meetings in the past four years. We regularly hold Ward meetings along with my Ward 1 City Council colleague, Bob Stafford.
I'm proud to continue supporting Fayetteville's work to help the unhoused, many of whom are in Ward 1. Our community is committed to implementing compassionate, evidence-based outreach programs. By expanding shelter capacity and collaborating with local nonprofits, we aim to provide safe and dignified housing options.
Addressing the mental health crisis requires an integrated approach, blending public awareness with practical solutions. We need a balanced approach that provides mental health support for individuals, rather than just punitive measures for people experiencing a crisis.
